Stop the mind-chatter
Updated: Sep 19, 2019

Taking time to become present and just BE has become a huge theme in my life over the last few months. Tapping into the NOW is the key to overcoming stress. We spend 90% of our lives either in the past, regurgitating past events in our minds that elicit old emotions, or in the future, worrying about something that hasn’t happened yet and giving rise to fear and uncertainty. Are you in charge of your mind or is your mind in charge of you? In “The Power of Now”, Eckhart Tolle gives a simple exercise that I absolutely love. He suggests to sit quietly, become present and say to yourself “I wonder what my next thought is going to be”, and then just witness what your mind does. Try this and see how long it takes before thoughts enter your mind. And the more you do it, the longer the stillness lasts. That stillness is bliss. It almost feels like taking a mini-vacation from the constant mind-chatter.
